Maya Keys
Maya Keys is a rising star flutist based in Paris, France, originally from Silver Spring, Maryland, USA. She is currently in her final year at Sorbonne University in Musicology where she plays in the Jazz Ensemble and at the Conservatoire Issy-les-Moulineaux for Flute where she studies with Mihi Kim and plays in the Symphony Orchestra. She is also a mentee of the National Flute Association Young Artist Mentorship Program and a mentee of the Black Lives in Music Mentor Programme. Both organizations have the goal of pairing college aged musicians with professional musicians. Maya played with the Etesias Orchestra and the Arcana Orchestra. She has won various prizes in flute competitions in France, most recently a 2nd prize in the Perfectionnement Division in the April 2024 Vanves Flute Competition. She is a recipient of the CBC Performing Arts Scholarship and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Launch Scholarship. Additionally, she has also taken flute and music arranging masterclasses from Gareth McLearnon and flute lessons from Sir James Galway, a world-renowned flutist. Maya was invited by Sergio Pallotelli and Paul Edmund-Davies, with whom she regularly studies in masterclasses, to participate in the Flauti al Castello masterclass this August. Her performance highlights include making her professional orchestral debut with the Chineke! Junior Orchestra for its 2022 European Tour for the Lucerne Festival at the KKL Luzern, the Konzerthaus for the Young Euro Classic, and the Concertgebouw. Under the BLIM Mentor Programme, she made her professional flute solo debut at Morley College at the Waterloo Centre this past May.
