Janese Sampson
Janese Sampson, Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra Senior Flute Choir Director since its inception in 2009, is a recitalist, chamber musician, adjudicator, and educator. She has performed as a soloist in prestigious venues throughout the Washington, DC area (including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Barns at Wolf Trap, the National Building Museum, and the J.F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts), as well as nationally and internationally. In addition to guest conducting numerous county Honors Bands, she has conducted orchestras at the White House, Sinfonia por La Vida in Ecuador and in the former Republic of Yugoslavia and Greece. The Desert Winds (Las Vegas, NV) and The Southern Winds (Deland, Fl) round out her most recent professional wind ensemble conducting debuts. She has been heard throughout Europe on Belgian National Radio, and her performances in the People’s Republic of China were broadcast over the National Radio of China. Her championship of music for flute and piano made possible performances at Piccolo Spoleto, USA, The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts (W. Palm Beach, FL) and the 1st Annual Symposium for Women Composers (Ann Arbor, MI). She has twice been listed as an Outstanding Young Woman of America and cited by Alpha Kappa Alpha for Outstanding Musical Accomplishment. Retired from MCPS in 2011 and Bowie State University in 2018, she continues to perform and currently teaches flute privately in Silver Spring, MD.
